How live houses work
Every listing gives two times. OPEN (開場) is when the doors open and START (開演) is when the first act plays. Prices appear the way venues print them: 前売 or ADV is the advance price and 当日 or DOOR is the price on the night.
The drink charge
Live House nano adds ¥500 for a drink to every ticket and Kyoto MOJO adds ¥600, paid at the door. UrBANGUILD prints it as +1drink after the price. At CLUB METRO most prices already include a drink ticket.
Where to see live music in Kyoto
Kawaramachi and Kiyamachi
Takutaku is on Tominokoji, a few streets south of Shijo. Live Spot RAG is on Kiyamachi just north of Sanjo, and UrBANGUILD is three minutes from Sanjo station on the Keihan line. Kawaramachi neighbourhood guide
Shijo-Karasuma and Nijo

Marutamachi, Gion and Okazaki

Buying tickets as a visitor
Every listing here links to the venue's own page, which names where tickets are sold. Takutaku takes bookings by email, Live House nano and Coffee House Jittoku have their own reservation pages, and Baja Bluet books by phone. Club nights at CLUB METRO mostly sell at the door.
For small shows the simplest route is the door. A listing with a 当日 or DOOR price sells on the night unless it sells out first.

Where can I see live music in Kyoto tonight?
The list at the top of this page opens on tonight's gigs, taken from the venues' own schedules. Most of the venues are downtown, round Kawaramachi, Kiyamachi and Shijo, with CLUB METRO a little north at Jingu-Marutamachi. Filter by genre or area, then check the venue listing for tickets.
What is a live house?
A live house is a small music venue with a bar and a stage. Most nights have several acts on one bill, and you pay the ticket price plus a drink charge at the door.
What does the drink charge mean?
Many live houses add the price of one drink to every ticket and take it at the door. Live House nano adds ¥500 and Kyoto MOJO ¥600, and UrBANGUILD's listings print it as +1drink. At CLUB METRO most prices already include a drink ticket.
What is the difference between OPEN and START?
OPEN (開場) is when the doors open and START (開演) is when the first act plays, usually 30 minutes to an hour later.
How do I buy gig tickets in Kyoto as a visitor?
