The short version

You don't need an account, and the site doesn't collect or sell anything about you. Some hotel links earn it a commission.

What's kept in your browser

The map lets you save places and events, set your trip dates and plan your days. All of that lives in your browser's local storage, on your device, and never leaves it. Nobody else can see it, and clearing your browser data clears it.

Analytics

Roam Kyoto doesn't run any visit analytics, and it sets no cookies of its own.

Affiliate disclosure

Hotel search on this site is powered by Stay22. If you book a hotel after clicking through, Roam Kyoto may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That's how the site pays for itself. It doesn't affect which places appear on the map or what the guides say about them, and nobody pays to be listed.

Stay22's link script loads on every page, and its hotel maps load where a page shows one. Both may set Stay22's own cookies, subject to their privacy policy.

Third-party services

Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap, and hotel maps and links from Stay22. Your browser asks their servers for those directly, so they see your IP address, the same as on any site that uses them. Fonts and place photos are hosted on this site.

Photo credits

Photos of places are Creative Commons photos from Flickr and Wikimedia Commons (CC BY, CC BY-SA, CC0 or public domain), credited to the photographer with the licence on every page that shows them. Stock photos aren't used. If you took one and it's credited wrongly, email hello@roamkyoto.com and it'll be fixed.
