Katsura Imperial Villa was built in stages over almost 50 years from 1615 by Prince Toshihito and his son Toshitada, and since fire never reached it, the buildings still look as they did then. The path around its big, irregular pond twists and turns so you never see the whole garden at once, and four tea pavilions sit along the way.
