Hachikian has been a chicken restaurant on Kawabata-dori since 1970. Lunch brings oyakodon made with Kyo-aka jidori for ¥2,750 or kamo nanban with duck and Kujo leeks, and the house dish is mizutaki, big pieces of chicken in a broth simmered for hours, with house ponzu, finished as rice porridge.

The Shinden hall, normally closed, opens free for the two days. On the 3rd mountain ascetics talk the demons round instead of chasing them out, and a big outdoor goma fire follows at 15:00.
