Takasegawa Nijoen is a Ganko restaurant in an old mansion at Kiyamachi and Nijo, set round a garden that Suminokura Ryoi, the merchant who dug the Takase canal, made in 1611. You eat looking out at plum blossom in early spring and red leaves in autumn, and in the noryo-yuka season it puts out a dining platform beside the Kamo River.
Insider tip
Banquet courses of kaiseki or sukiyaki start at ¥9,000. There's a 10% service charge, and bookings are by phone only. The house also runs a cafe with afternoon tea.
